Der Digital Combat Simulator (DCS) von Eagle Dynamics erreicht die nächste Stufe: Version 2.9 wurde veröffentlicht und verspricht viele neue Features. So wurde nicht nur ein komplexes Voice- und Kommunikationssystem integriert, auch die Grafikengine erhält neue Features (AMD&Nvidia). Und die Mirage erhält eine neue Variante.
Es sind jetzt schon 15 Jahre, die DCS auf dem Buckel hat und die Arbeit ruht bei dem internationalen Team von Entwicklern um Nick Grey einfach nicht. Wie immer ist beim DCS die Open Beta die Version mit regelmäßigen Updates. Jetzt ist Version 1.9 erschienen und wer sich das Changelog ausdrucken will, schützt sicher nicht den Regenwald. Denn lang ist Liste der Features:
Zum einen ist da das neue Voice-Feature. Mulitplayer-Nutzer werden es kennen: Auf Servern wird meist professionell gefunkt, so wie man es im zivilen Bereich auf VATSIM und Co. kennt. Die Kommunikation und Anbindung an die Cockpits der DCS-Module hat bisher das Tool SimpleRadio (SRS) übernommen. Jetzt hat der DCS Voice Chat am Start, das kein simples Push-to-Talk ist, sondern vielfältige Features integriert. Kein Wunder hat DCS-Influencer Matt „Wags“ Wagner auf seinem Kanal ein 10-minütiges Tutorial zur Nutzung der neuen Funktion veröffentlicht:
Auch bei der Grafik hat sich im neuen Update einiges getan – und zwar für beide Lager. Nvidia-Nutzer können sich jetzt über die Unterstützung für Nvidia DLSS freuen. „Durch Upscaling kann Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) die Spielleistung drastisch verbessern, wenn der Grafikprozessor (GPU) eingeschränkt ist“, schreibt Eagle Dynamics im Changelog. „Bitte beachtet, dass DLSS wenig bis gar keinen Einfluss auf die Leistung hat, wenn eure CPU eingeschränkt ist. Und wenn wir schon bei Grafik sind: Jetzt gibt es Screen Space Shadows (SSS) im DCS. Dadurch werden die Schattendetails von Gras, Büschen und Baumschatten verbessert. Am deutlichsten wird dies bei bewegten Gras- und Baumschatten bei großen Sichtdistanzen. Natürlich sind alle Features noch Work in Progress. Die komplette Liste der neuen Features findet ihr unten.

- NEW: LOD Switch Factor. The Level of Detail (LOD) slider allows you to adjust the distance at which a unit transitions to lower level of detail models. 1 is the default value, but by setting a lower value, game performance can be increased.
- NEW: Sharpening. The slider adjusts the image sharpness between 0.00 (default) and 1.00. Sharpening can help make it look crisp and clear by enhancing the edges of objects in the image. However, adding too much sharpness can actually make an image look worse, or it can lead to a loss in image detail. When using DLSS, we suggest a setting of 0.5 and 0.8-1.0 for FSR.
- NEW: Cinematic Camera View – Right Control + F2. In combination with the mouse, the WASD keys can be used to move the camera forward, back, and laterally, and the Q and E keys can move the camera up and down. This allows the camera to be positioned in reference to the unit’s coordinate system, allowing much greater camera control for cinematic scenes.
- NEW: 3D Models. Newly created models for the B-1B, B-52H, S-3B (S-3B Tanker to follow shortly), “Centurion” C-RAM, and SA-10 (S-300PS).

Engine:
- Adjusted engine flame-out with tail wind or reversed airflow. It may happen on the ground with extreme winds and at high altitudes with out-of-envelope manoeuvres that involve reversed airflow, such as a tailslide. The RPM has to be set high to minimise the phenomenon.
- The engine starter button cover is spring loaded now (will close after a time delay).
Flight model:
- Slightly increased high supersonic drag to better reflect acceleration data.
Autostart/Autostop:
- Fixed auto start sequence. Now the throttle is checked/moved to idle in the cabin checks phase, to avoid a hot start chance.
